Let these mini-arts make your childhood dream come true

Every girl goes through a stage in her childhood where she would do anything just to have a dollhouse she can call her own. Be it a Barbie beach house accompanied with a pink sports car, or a classic colonial-style mansion that comes with a garden. It is every little girl’s dream and even after she has grown up, she will always remember the days wishing for a dollhouse in her room.

This is why lots of adults today – in particular the female ones – are still devoted dollhouse collectors. They appreciate the fact that their collectibles can take them to a trip down the memory lane, on top of adding classic flair to their homes.

Making all these grown-ups’ dreams come true is Mini-Arts Ltd., a Hong Kong-based dollhouse-making specialist. Mini-Arts is renowned for dollhouses and miniatures in architectural scale i.e. 1:12, 1:15 or 1:24 since its establishment back in 1990.

“Our exquisitely-made dollhouses are made of high quality wood, metal as well as fabrics with respect to the houses and objects found in our real life.” said Mr. Roland Lam, managing director of Mini-Arts. “They are most popular among European, American and Japanese buyers, who share a high degree of appreciation for the finest things in life with exceptional details.” In addition to dollhouses that bring style and class into every home, Mini-Arts is also an expert in manufacturing timeless furniture in miniatures, as well as a wide range of accessories that goes with the dollhouses.

These miniatures and accessories are rolled out in Mini-Arts’ 10,000-sqm factory located in Guangzhou, China. Along with an office in Hong Kong, Mini-Arts currently runs two production lines – one for its OEM projects, and another one that carries its own “Mini-Arts” brand. “Though making products that serve different purposes, all our dollhouses are made using the same unique techniques as well as exceptionally durable materials.” Mr. Lam elaborated on Mini-Arts’ business principles.

Because the dollhouse market is a rather niche one, competition is comparatively not as stiff as lots of research work and complicated engineering that go into the manufacturing process. “Also, the lengthy research and development process mean that it takes us much longer time to train and educate our staff working at the factory,” Mr. Lam pointed out the challenges involved when running his Mini-Arts. “Furthermore, since we only use natural materials to make our dollhouses, sourcing and storing of the required materials may not always be easy.” However, with vast wisdom and knowledge derived from ample experience, Mr. Lam produces his dollhouses in an efficient manner. After many tried-and-tested attempts, Mini-Arts has in recent years managed to develop an innovative assembling method that has drastically changed the way dollhouse lovers build their dream houses.

Known as the “No-Nails, No-Glue” technology, this revolutionary assembling method is a patented one, by which every preciously-cut slots can be easily applied to every dollhouse made, allowing even amateurs and children to build their dollhouses with the least amount of difficulty. “We are very proud of this invention, and are happy that the dollhouse collectors benefit from this extremely user-friendly way of constructing a dollhouse,” Mr. Lam said with much pride.

The success of Mini-Arts’ dollhouses comes with not just a strict quality-control manufacturing process. Their cutting-edge designs are also factored into a customer’s decision on whether it is something worthy of money. How do the dollhouse designers get their creative juices flowing at Mini-Arts? Mr. Lam answered, “We usually generate our product ideas from books and photos featuring actual houses and buildings. We also seek and collect suggestions from our customers who come to us with a blueprint in their heads as to how they would like their dollhouses to be.”

One recent project that Mini-Arts created in collaboration with its client is “The Seven Dwarfs’ Cottage”. This Cottage was constructed using the “No-Nail, No-Glue” system, which is truly a one of its kind product in bringing what a dream comes true. Since the creation of the legendary fairytale “Snow White and & 7 Dwarfs” in 1937, there was never such kind of dollhouse that can materialise the conceptual idea so close to reality. The Cottage, respecting its true architectural essence, can be enlarged into a life size structure, as Mr. Lame explained. This dollhouse comes with a line of assorted furniture, accessories, as well as all seven dwarfs and the beautiful Snow White under Disney license which has now been successfully launched into Europe and Mini-Arts is pleased to achieve the best possible quality/price in this collection.

Mini-Arts’ impeccable success has much to do with Mr. Lam’s ruthless passion for quality and design, and it is the very same quality that leads Mini-Arts to a prosperous future. The company plans on investing more resources in developing an even wider range of dollhouses in different styles to suit customers’ diverse tastes. “We are very optimistic about the dollhouse business. We find that more and more adults are now craving for quality collectibles. Also, there is a popular trend in Western countries to have more DIY retailers for customers to look for all things crafty. We are confident that the demand for self-made dollhouses will increase over the next few years.” Mr. Lam is talking enthusiastically about the future for Mini-Arts.
