Travel Tips

When to Visit - Arts and Events

Paris is a city of museums and art exhibitions. There are museums especially dedicated to some of the world’s greatest artists, like Picasso, Monet, Rodin and Matisse, just to name a few. There are also galleries that feature irregular shows of historical and contemporary work. The most famous gallery in Paris, however, is the Pompidou Centre, which is instantly identifiable as the “inside-out” building.

Dining

The French has an excellent reputation in culinary culture, and eating out is absolutely an integral part of your Parisian experience. Creative, inspiring and elegantly presented food are always served, whether you are dining at the most formal restaurants to smaller cafes and bars. Diners should be a little adventurous and try out new dishes.

Tipping Advice

Restaurants generally include a 10-15% service charge on the bill, but if the service has been exceptional, diners can leave a little extra. Taxi drivers expect 5-10% extra, while Parisian porters, doormen, room service staff as well as cinemas ushers also expect a small tip.

Transportation

As the French capital city, Paris is very accessible. The TGV high-speed trains as well as a number of coach companies provide services that link Paris with the rest of France. Additionally, the Eurostar train links Paris with London, Brussels and Lille.

Arriving by Air

France’s premier airport is the Riossy Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, which services international and European flights.

Getting Around Paris

The city centre is connected to the two airports, the Riossy Charles de Gaulle Airport and the Orly by taxi and bus. The public transport facilities are outstanding, inexpensive and on-time. Try not to drive in inner city Paris to avoid traffic jams.
