Climate
Expect plenty of sunshine, only little rain and the occasional tropical thunderstorms
in summer; and mild and warm conditions in winter due to the sub-tropical climate.

When to visit- Arts and Events
During the summer months, the huge open-air marble theatre at the foot of the
Acropolis hosts a series of musical, dance and theatrical performances. Meanwhile, magnificent
classical Greek plays are the focal point of Athens' cultural scene.
Dining
Seasonal salads, luscious fresh fruits and olives are widely available in Athens
in summer; while delicious Greek desserts like Kataifi (a mixture of nuts, wheat and honey) are
served in winter.
Tavernas, situated at the narrow and winding streets at the foot of the Acropolis,
serve fresh fish and roasted meat while traditional Greek music is played live in the background.
There are also other restaurants offering cuisines from around the world.
Tipping Advice
In Athens, bills in restaurants are usually subject to 15% service charge,
though it is normal to leave a tip of up to 10% for the waiters. Visitors should tip porters and
other service workers in proportion to the level of services provided.
Transportation
Athens is accessible by air, and conveniently linked to other parts of Greece
by road and rail.

There are regular international and domestic flights servicing the Athens
Eleftherios Venizelos International Airport.
Getting Around Athens
Although traffic is heavy in Athens, hiring a car to get around the city is advisable
as there is abundant car parking within the city. Public transport is reasonably-priced and reliable,
especially the Metro underground train service.
