Climate
Moscow experiences extreme climatic conditions from bitter winters to sweltering
summers. Sub-zero temperatures and snowfall can be expected in winter (between November and April),
and temperatures can soar above 30°C (85°F) in summer (July and August).

The Bolshoi Theatre holds a central role in Moscow's cultural scene, as it is home to
Russia's premier ballet company, the Bolshoi Company. The theatre holds ballet and opera performances
regularly, and it is considered a must-visit tourist attraction.
Dining
Local cuisines at Moscow include pelmeni (dumplings), bliny (pancakes, served with
butter or caviar), sturgeon and borsch (a meat stewed with fresh cream and raisins), and visitors must
sample the world-famous vodka. Moscow also has a large number of top-class restaurants that offers
international cuisines.
Tipping Advice
Tipping is not customary, but an amount of 10% to 15% would be most appreciated.
Transportation
The Russian rail network is most comprehensive, linking Moscow to most parts of
Russia as well as China and Europe. There are 9 train stations in Moscow, each linked with metro
stations. Moscow is also well-linked by road.

The Russian capital is served by the Sheremetyevo International Airport.
Getting Around Moscow
Central Moscow can be easily explored by foot. Visitors should make an effort in
taking the underground train at least once during their visit. The stations are often furnished with
chandeliers and lavish ticket halls. Moscow has a crime problem, so visitors should avoid carrying
a lot of cash and walking alone at night.
