Travel Tips

Arts and Events

Vancouver's approach to life and arts is clearly displayed by the city's biggest annual event, the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. Held at Jericho Park each July, the 4-day festival features some of the most loved artists in sultry folk, blues and country as well as exotic drumming.

Dining

Vancouver has a unique range of local specialties, including freshly caught salmon and oysters, which are enhances by selected white wines. The diverse ethnic mix of the city also provides many international dining options.

Tipping Advice

Tipping is expected in Vancouver as no service charge is included in the bill. An approximately 10-20% tip should suffice. Doormen and porters should be tipped a dollar per bag in a standard hotel, and maids may be tipped about a dollar a day.

Transportation

Canada's excellent rail and road networks connect Vancouver to other destinations across Canada, and further south to the United States.

Arriving by Air

Vancouver is served by the Vancouver International Airport.

Getting Around Vancouver

Tourists can safely explore Vancouver on foot, but they should consider using the taxis and bus services for longer journeys. The streets of Vancouver can become quite busy, so driving should be avoided.
